Dogs are only allowed at Piropiro Campsite with a Department of Conservation permit, sorted before you arrive. We have drafted the email for you: it reaches the Te Kūiti DOC office, which looks after Pureora Forest Park. Add your details and send it.

- Apply before you travel. A permit can take up to five days, and it is not issued at the campsite.
- Add your dog's details. Include the microchip and council registration numbers and your trip dates. The draft has a line for each.
- Wait for DOC to confirm. They reply with the permit or tell you what else they need, such as proof of aversion training.

This is a basic campsite in the Waitomo/Pureora area. From here, explore forest roads by car or mountain bike.
This campsite marks the mid-point of the Timber Trail and easy access to the Maramataha suspension bridge.

Getting there
Off SH 4 or SH30, on the Waimiha-Ongarue Rd. Turn east at Waimiha, follow Ongarue Stream Rd into Kokomiko Rd. Access: 13 km of gravel road from Kokomiko Rd to campsite, windy in places.
