This walk comes from licensed public walk data and is being progressively confirmed against the authorities. Signs on the day always win. Nelson City Council’s own wording: “Nelson City Council: dogs are prohibited from the 'Eastern two thirds of Tahunanui Main Beach'. (Dog Control Policy 2020, Schedule One, Dogs Prohibited Areas, item 2.) Where the shared path runs behind the Tahunanui beachfront the sealed path is fine with the dog on the lead, but the main beach beside it is the prohibited part; the western end of the beach and the back beach are the dog areas. Nelson City Council, Dog Control Policy 2020, Schedule One (prohibited areas), clause 1: "Nelson Airport (unless transporting dogs for air lift in or out of Nelson; or dogs securely restrained in the owner's vehicle). This is for safety reasons." The last kilometre of this walk, from where the shared path crosses onto airport land near Bolt Road through to the terminal, sits inside that prohibited area, so turn a dog walk around at the airport boundary rather than finishing at the terminal”. Evidence: the rule-setter’s own published wording. How we check dog rules.
