About Green Road Park

This moderate-length walk follows 2.2 km, near Dairy Flat in Auckland.

A large rural park on Green Road at Dairy Flat that is also a working sheep and beef farm, so the tracks run through grazed paddocks with stock in them and Auckland Council asks that you leave all gates as you find them. The sign at the entrance is the thing that decides your walk: the council says it shows the track routes and distances, when they are open and closed, and which areas are not open to the public at all, so read it before you set off rather than assuming the whole park is walkable on the day. Park in the large gravel car park just inside the Green Road entrance. The line mapped here is the council’s own main path through the park, leaving the car park on the formed park road and then heading southwest across the farm to the Sunnyside Road boundary at the far corner, a little over 2 km one way, with a footbridge and a couple of pedestrian kissing gates on the tracks that branch off it. Other routes leave the same spine, including a northern arm of the main path running back toward Green Road and a middle-of-the-reserve link, so pick from whatever the entrance sign has open. The leash rule is the council default for its parks and there is no dog walking exception listed for this one, and it is the sensible rule here anyway: this is working farmland with lambs and calves on it.

It sits at the easy end and gains roughly 11 m, and takes about 26 min to walk.

Dogs are allowed here, on the lead. This walk is on the map because Ricky & Rex suggested it, and we checked it against the source above.
