Huntsbury Track is an out-and-back of 4.5 km, near Christchurch in Canterbury.
Huntsbury Track is as much a formed road as a track: Christchurch City Council allows 4x4 and motorbike access on the formed road, and the council's sign at the Summit Road end reads Dogs on lead at all times. The lead rule comes from the Dog Control Policy and Bylaw 2025, which maps Huntsbury Track and surrounds and the whole of Bowenvale Park as leashed areas to protect the grazing stock. Expect sheep and cattle on the hillside either side, a stile and a cattle grid on the way up, and stay on the formed road.
Expect moderate going, with around 179 m of climb, pitching up to 22 % at its steepest, and takes about 1.5–2 hr to walk.
