About Newcastle Track
Newcastle Track is a track of 13.6 km, near Pembroke in Otago.
A 12 km Grade 3 walking and biking track (easy to intermediate) following the true left of the Clutha River from the Hāwea River swing bridge to Kane Road, in the Wānaka area of Central Otago. Allow about 2-3 hours one way.
Expect hard going, with around 59 m of climb, pitching up to 8 % at its steepest, and takes about 2h 48m to walk.
Dogs are allowed off the lead on this one. DOC’s own wording: “Dogs allowed. Keep dog under control at all times.”.
