About Parata Track

Parata Track is a short walk of 1.5 km, near Waikanae in Wellington.

The track passes through one of the largest remaining areas of kohekohe forest in the North Island, then climbs to a lookout over the coast, Kapiti Island and the Reikorangi Valley, where there is a bench seat. DOC calls it 3.6 km return, 1 to 2 hours, and an intermediate tramping track. It shares the reserve with the Kohekohe Walk and the Te Au Track, and the three link up.

Graded moderate, it climbs about 278 m overall, pitching up to 34 % at its steepest, and takes about 45m to walk.
