Remutaka Rail Trail: Cross Creek to Summit Tunnel covers 3.3 km, near Upper Hutt in Wellington, walked as a point-to-point.
A section of the gently graded, 18 km Remutaka Rail Trail in Remutaka Forest Park, following the historic 1878 railway line between Cross Creek and the Summit past restored bridges and tunnels (bring a torch). Shared by walkers and mountain bikers.
Expect moderate going, with around 196 m of climb, pitching up to 25 % at its steepest, and takes about 58m to walk.
Dogs are welcome here.
