The lead comes off only once you are out of the bush and onto the grass of Kerr-Taylor Park; playgrounds and sports surfaces stay out of bounds for dogs at all times across Auckland”. Roy Clements Treeway is a raised boardwalk through a strip of regenerating bush in Mount Albert, following Waititiko, also called Meola Creek. Locals planted it about thirty years ago under the leadership of Roy Clements, and it has been looked after by volunteers ever since. The council path starts at 37 Alberton Avenue at the northern end. There are two other ways in: off Wagner Place opposite the St Lukes shopping centre, and from Fergusson Avenue or Hazelmere Road in Sandringham at the southern end. The walking is flat and mostly on boardwalk, so it stays clean underfoot in the wet. The bush runs beside the creek and along the boundary of Mount Albert Grammar School. It is a narrow corridor with people, bikes and pushchairs coming the other way, and the boardwalk has no run-off room, so this is a lead-on stretch and the council says so plainly. The boardwalk finishes at Kerr-Taylor Park, an open grassed area with young natives planted along the paths. Auckland Council lists Kerr-Taylor Park as an off-leash park, in the Policy on Dogs 2025 and on the park's own page, so this is where the lead comes off. Keep clear of any playground or sports surface, which stay out of bounds for dogs at all times across Auckland. Kerr-Taylor Park is also reached from the end of Fergusson Avenue and by a walkway between 162 and 164 Haverstock Road. Our line runs from the Alberton Avenue entrance to the southern end of Kerr-Taylor Park, 0.85 km one way. The council's own AKL Paths route is longer at 3.5 km because it loops back through the residential streets and up the ramps to the St Lukes car park, which are footpaths and roads, so the lead stays on for those. Graded easy, it climbs about 5 m overall, and takes about 10 min to walk.
