The rule-setter’s own wording: “Christchurch City Council's own page for Stan Helms Track lists the rule under Dogs: "Must be kept on a leash". The council says the same for the wider Bridle Path area, "Dogs must be on a leash at all times". So the lead stays on the whole way, from Harmans Road to the Summit Road”. About Stan Helms Track
Stan Helms Track is an out-and-back of 2.6 km, near Lyttelton in Canterbury.
The council's page carries the detail. It starts near the end of Harmans Road in Lyttelton, climbs steadily onto a prominent spur, then weaves uphill to meet the Crater Rim Walkway at the Bridle Path car park on the Summit Road, about 1.2 km and 30 minutes one way. Our route here is the return trip, which is why the distance on this page is longer than the council's.
Expect moderate going, with around 214 m of climb, pitching up to 24 % at its steepest, and takes about 1–1.5 hr to walk.
