The base walk data and the mapped council zone here read differently, and the council bylaw wins: follow the zone note above and the signs on the day. Route details come from licensed public walk data. Christchurch City Council’s own wording: “Christchurch City Council, Dog Control Policy 2025 (Styx Mill Conservation Reserve, excluding the west end): "Dogs are prohibited to protect wildlife, except for the following paths, where dogs are allowed and must be leashed: on the path that runs from the Styx Mill Road car park, along the back of the Styx Mill Transfer Station, to Styx Mill Road; and on the path that runs around the outside of the predator-proof fence in the reserve." On this loop the perimeter path is the only ground open to dogs and they must be leashed on it, so any side track into the reserve interior or the wetland margins is closed to them. The west end past the Hussey Road entrance road is a separate Council entry: leashed there, under effective control in the open field, and off-leash inside the fenced dog park”. Evidence: the council’s own mapped rule zone. How we check dog rules.
