This long track follows 7.3 km as a track, near Ashburton in Canterbury.
A high-country section of the Te Araroa trail through Hakatere Conservation Park, crossing Clent Hills Saddle and descending to the Double Hut junction in the Ashburton Lakes basin. Open tussock tramping with unbridged stream crossings, linking the Comyns and Lake Emily stretches of the trail.
It sits at the hard end and gains roughly 672 m, pitching up to 51 % at its steepest, and takes about 2h 35m to walk.
Dogs are allowed off the lead on this one. DOC’s own wording: “Dogs allowed. Keep dog under control at all times.”.
