About Te Iringa Track
This long walk follows 10.8 km, near Kaimanawa Forest Park in Waikato.
The main Clements Mill Road walk in Kaimanawa Forest Park: a steady climb through beech forest to the old Te Iringa Hut site, then around Mt Te Iringa and down to Tiki Tiki Stream, the Kaipo swing bridge and Oamaru Hut. All of Kaimanawa Forest Park is dogs-with-a-DOC-permit country, and it is the general recreation permit, not just a hunting one: arrange it with the Tūrangi or Taupō DOC office before you go and allow up to five working days. DOC encourages kiwi and whio avoidance training here. It is a shared-use track, so expect mountain bikers, and return the same way: there is no through access via Poronui Station.
Graded hard, it climbs about 470 m overall, and takes about 2 hr 56 to walk.
A DOC dog permit is required before any dog walks here. Arrange it with the managing DOC office ahead of your trip. This walk is on the map because Emma suggested it, and we checked it against the source above.
