About Victoria Battery Ore Kiln Walk
Victoria Battery Ore Kiln Walk is a track of 0.2 km, near Waihi in Waikato.
A short self-guided walk around the Victoria Battery historic site at Waikino in the Karangahake Gorge, once New Zealand's largest gold-ore crushing battery (1898-1952). You pass the concrete ore-roasting kilns, cyanide-tank foundations and a site museum in the former powerhouse, with a heritage tramway also on site.
Graded easy, it stays flat overall, and takes about 2m to walk.
Dogs are welcome here on the lead. DOC’s own wording: “No dog-access statement on the DOC page (it is a historic-site page without a standard track facts panel); DOC's GIS classifies it 'Dogs on a leash only'.”.
