The rule-setter’s own wording: “Dogs are allowed on all beach and foreshore areas in the Whangarei District, except for those areas provided for under sections 2.2, 3.2 and 4.2 of Schedule 2, subject to the following summer season rule: Summer (20 December to 31 January): before 9am under control off a leash; 9am to 5pm prohibited; after 5pm under control off a leash. About Waipū Cove Beach Walk
This short walk follows 1.9 km, near Waipū in Northland.
A long sandy surf beach on Bream Bay, walked from the northern end of the Camp Waipu Cove campground southeast along the sand toward the rocky headlands. The summer season rule is the whole story here: off-leash all day for most of the year, but from 20 December to 31 January dogs are prohibited between 9am and 5pm, with off-leash mornings and evenings either side. Do not walk north past the campground: the beach from the campground access track to the Waipū River mouth and estuary is a year-round total ban, and DOC controls the river marginal strip beyond it.
Expect easy going, with around 12 m of climb, and takes about 24 min to walk.
