The dog rule shown here is resolved against the council zone this walk sits in. Route details come from licensed public walk data. Christchurch City Council’s own wording: “Christchurch City Council, Dog Control Policy 2025, 'Brooklands Spit and Lagoon, and Seafield Park (including dunes, foreshore and beach)', status Prohibited / leashed: "Dogs are prohibited to protect wildlife, except on formed walking tracks, where dogs must be on a leash." The Council's Seafield Park record, which covers about 70 percent of this route, says the same thing: "Dogs are prohibited to protect wildlife values in all areas other than on walking tracks. Dogs are permitted on a leash on walking tracks." On this walk the leashed ground is the formed Brooklands Lagoon Bird Hide Walk including its boardwalk, and the lagoon margin, dunes and spit either side of it are closed to dogs. Christchurch City Council names this track directly on its Spencer and Seafield Parks page: "Dogs must also be leashed on all formed tracks, paths, roads and car parks. This includes the Brooklands Lagoon Track, Waimakariri Walkway, Wetland Walk and Pine Forest Loop."”. Evidence: a hand-checked correction against the authority. How we check dog rules.
