Christchurch City Council’s own wording: “Christchurch City Council, Dog Control Policy 2025, 'Brooklands Spit and Lagoon, and Seafield Park (including dunes, foreshore and beach)', status Prohibited / leashed: "Dogs are prohibited to protect wildlife, except on formed walking tracks, where dogs must be on a leash. This includes the beach area from the Waimakariri River mouth to a point 800 metres north of Heyders Road beach access area. Dogs are prohibited from marked horse tracks." On this walk the leashed ground is the marked track itself, so any step off it onto the spit, the dunes, the foreshore or the beach beside it puts your dog inside the no-dogs area. Christchurch City Council names this track directly on its Spencer and Seafield Parks page: "Dogs must also be leashed on all formed tracks, paths, roads and car parks.
