About Lake Waro Lakeside Walk
This short walk follows 1.2 km, near Hikurangi in Northland.
The council’s lakeside track on the eastern shore of Lake Waro, a former mining lake beneath dramatic limestone outcrops at Hikurangi. Dogs are on-leash here, and there is an off-leash grass area immediately south of the transfer station. The full lake circuit is off the cards with a dog: the western limestone reserve section is DOC land where dogs are not allowed at all, so turn around rather than continuing into the Waro Limestone Scenic Reserve. The area is grazed, so expect livestock.
It sits at the easy end and gains roughly 12 m, and takes about 15 min to walk.
Dogs are allowed here, on the lead. This walk is on the map because Zane suggested it, and we checked it against the source above.
