About Waimahanga Track

Waimahanga Track covers 2.8 km, near Whangārei in Northland.

Follows a disused railway line along the Onerahi harbour edge, through an inter-tidal mangrove zone rich in birdlife, on all-weather track between Waimahanga Road and the Port Road end. It forms part of the Onerahi Shared Path and the council names it as one of Whangārei’s popular on-leash dog walks. Keep clear of the wetland areas off the walkway around Limeburners Creek, which are no-dog territory.

Expect easy going, with around 11 m of climb, and takes about 34 min to walk.
