About Ngunguru to Whangaumu Coastal Walk
Ngunguru to Whangaumu Coastal Walk is a point-to-point of 2.7 km, near Ngunguru in Northland.
A low-tide coastal wander from the south-eastern end of the Kauakarangi Bay sandspit at Ngunguru, southeast along the beach and foreshore to Whangaumu Bay, known locally as Wellingtons Bay. This stretch is off-leash year-round; the sandspit itself (opposite Ngunguru School) is on-leash, and the lookout walkway climbing the point at the Whangaumu end is on-leash too. Best at mid to low tide. One hard rule: never cross the river to Ngunguru Sandspit on the far side, which is prohibited by both the council and DOC.
It sits at the easy end and gains roughly 27 m, and takes about 34 min to walk.
