This walk comes from licensed public walk data and is being progressively confirmed against the authorities. Signs on the day always win. Kāpiti Coast District Council’s own wording: “Kāpiti Coast District Council codes the Ōtaki River Estuary "restricted on leash" in both control_type_winter and control_type_summer, which the bylaw defines as "An area where dogs are permitted, provided they are under continuous leash control and remain on formed pathways and walking tracks" (Summer Dog Access layer: "Dog control areas as defined by the Kapiti Coast District Council Dog Control Bylaw 2019. See schedules 1, 2, 3 and 4"). The council's off-lead "Ōtaki River north bank track" polygon and the estuary polygon share a boundary with no overlap, so the off-lead stopbank ends and the estuary begins about 2.9 km along, which puts the final 860 m of our mapped line inside the on-lead estuary, before the Rangiuru Stream rather than after it”. Evidence: a hand-checked correction against the authority. How we check dog rules.
