This walk was suggested by the community and checked against the authority quoted above before it was published. The route line comes from official track data. Auckland Council’s own wording: “Auckland Council splits this park in two and you need both halves. Its dog table for Rooseville Park reads “Park areas … Off-leash All times”, so your dog can be off the lead on the walk itself, and then “Fenced grazed areas … Prohibited All times”, so dogs are not allowed at all inside the grazed paddocks. The Auckland Council Policy on Dogs 2025 says the same thing in one line at clause 2.4.1(40): “Rooseville Reserve (Pukekohe): excluding the fenced grazed area”. Neither the council page nor the policy publishes a boundary for that grazed area, so the fence on the ground is the only way to tell where it starts, and that is the line to respect. Off-lead here still means under control and in sight, and the council asks you to follow the access shown on its website even if a sign on the ground reads differently. Read 3 September 2026”. Near Pukekohe in Auckland, Rooseville Park runs 0.9 km.
A quiet bush and stream walk tucked into the edge of Pukekohe, and one of the few places this close to town where a dog can be off the lead. Our line runs about 960 m through the park from the Ngahere Road side across to the Totara Avenue end, so it is a comfortable half hour out and back, or a shorter one way if you have two cars or a walk round the streets in you. Inge and Pip put us onto it and told us where they park, at the dead end of Totara Avenue. That turns out to be a good tip: the council track comes to within about 8 m of the end of the road there, so you step almost straight from the car onto the path. Auckland Council also publishes a self-guided walk sheet for the park that starts from the same spot. Dogs are off lead in the park areas, which is the council’s own wording, but there is one hard exception. Rooseville has fenced grazed paddocks and dogs are prohibited inside them at all times, not merely leashed. Neither the council nor the Policy on Dogs publishes a map of where those paddocks are, so treat the fence line as the boundary: if you are looking at stock behind a fence, that is the part your dog cannot be in. Everywhere else on the walk is off lead. The park has more path in it than our line shows. Auckland Council maps a little over 2 km of track here, but it is a branching network of short spurs rather than one loop, and we only draw the continuous run we can follow honestly end to end. Expect to find side paths we have not mapped, and expect them to be worth a wander. Underfoot it is easy, mostly flat and shaded, which makes it a decent winter option and a kind one for an older dog.
