This walk comes from licensed public walk data and is being progressively confirmed against the authorities. Signs on the day always win. The rule-setter’s own wording: “South Waikato District Council, Tokoroa dog walking map, published on the council's own “Where can I walk my dog?” page and read 8 September 2026: “In the urban areas of Tokoroa, Putaruru, Tirau and Arapuni ALL dogs must be on a leash when in a public place”, and “You CAN walk your dog anywhere in the urban area providing it's on a leash with the exception of the highlighted areas.” None of the highlighted areas are on this route. We checked it against the eleven Tokoroa entries under “Dog Exercise Areas” in the bylaw's Second Schedule and the nearest, the Whakauru Stream reserve, is about 300 metres west of the track. Dunhams Park Reserve, which the same schedule lists as a prohibited dog area at its public playground, is about 200 metres west and also off the route. This moderate-length track follows 3.9 km as an out-and-back, near Tokoroa in Waikato.
Worth knowing before you go. This one sits inside Tokoroa's urban boundary, where South Waikato District Council requires every dog to be on a leash in a public place, and none of the town's off lead exercise areas are on the route. The nearest of those, and the no dogs playground at Dunhams Park, are both a couple of hundred metres west of the track.
Expect easy going, with around 63 m of climb, pitching up to 15 % at its steepest, and takes about 0.5–1 hr to walk.
