Two different things get called dog-friendly, and we keep them apart.
  • Dogs inside means the operator has said dogs are welcome in the building, and we hold the wording that says it.
  • Outdoor areas means the courtyard, the garden bar or the footpath tables, and not indoors.
Every venue below carries the source we read it in. Anything we could not source is left off, so a place missing from this page is one nobody has put in writing, not one that said no.
The rare ones

Dogs welcome inside in Hamilton

The operator has said dogs are welcome in the building. The wording we read is quoted on each card, with a link to where we read it.

The Keg Room

Dogs welcome inside

Bar · Rototuna

“The operator's own word: "Dogs are part of the family, bring yours with you", and their Dog Friendly page is all about "dining with doggos" with a dedicated dog menu. A pack member ate there with two dogs (Aug 2026) and confirms the dog menu and takeaway.”

Garden Grove Cafe

Dogs welcome in the outdoor area

Cafe · Gordonton

“Dogs on lead are welcome for walks around the Woodlands Estate gardens, and dogs join the big outdoor seating area at the cafe. A pack member’s word (Aug 2026) on top of an editorial listing.”

Hayes Common

Dogs welcome in the outdoor area

Restaurant · Hamilton

“Hayes Common publishes a dog menu. It sits on their own menu page under the tab "DAWG", read 31 August 2026, and runs to a dawg sausage, dawg bacon, a barkuterie donut, a peanut butter cookie and a puppicino. That is the venue's own words and it settles that dogs are catered for here, but it says nothing about where they may sit, so the outside tick comes from a pack member who sat outside with their dog in August 2026 and was told by staff that dogs are welcome. They found water, shade and somewhere to tie up. Across Jellicoe Drive is Hayes Paddock, a Hamilton City Council reserve on the Waikato River with the city's riverside shared path running through it, and Wellington Street Beach is a few hundred metres north through the park. We have no council source yet for whether dogs are on or off the lead in Hayes Paddock, so treat the lead as staying on until we do.”

Policies change, and the operator has the last word. Owners change, councils change, a wet Tuesday changes what fits in the courtyard. Ring ahead if the answer matters, take the operator’s word over ours, and keep the dog settled and off the seats either way. Spot something out of date? Tell us and we will re-read the source.
