About Greytown to Woodside Trail
This long track follows 9.0 km as an out-and-back, near Greytown in Wellington.
On lead the whole way, and that comes from the people who built the trail. The Greytown Trails Trust run the Greytown Rail Trail and publish the on-lead rule on their own dogs page. The old railway line runs between working paddocks, and the trust reminds owners through lambing and calving that a dog through a neighbour’s fence is the one thing that would cost everyone the trail. There are poo bags and bins along the way. If your dog needs a run off the lead first, the fenced dog park is at the Cotter Street end, on the corner of Cotter and Pierce Streets.
Expect easy going, with around 35 m of climb, pitching up to 3 % at its steepest, and takes about 2–2.5 hr to walk.
