Near Haast in West Coast, Mica Mine Tops Route runs 7.3 km.
An expert-grade route off the Historic Haast to Paringa Cattle Track, climbing marker poles to the exposed alpine tops near Mataketake Hut. The whole Haast, Paringa and Moeraki rivers area is permit country, and the permit DOC codes here is the hunting-dog one: kākā, mohua and reported kiwi make this a place a pet dog should not be assumed welcome.
Graded hard, it climbs about 770 m overall, and takes about 2 hr 44 to walk.
