About Obelisk Loop Track
This long track follows 10.2 km as a loop, near Alexandra in Otago.
A high-alpine loop on the Old Man Range starting from the range's highest point at the Obelisk (Kopuwai) rock tor in Kopuwai Conservation Area, Central Otago. On a clear day the views reach Rakiura/Stewart Island, Aoraki/Mt Cook and Tititea/Mt Aspiring.
Expect hard going, with around 276 m of climb, pitching up to 88 % at its steepest, and takes about 2h 30m to walk.
Dogs are allowed off the lead on this one. DOC’s own wording: “Dogs allowed. Keep dog under control at all times.”.
