About Pūkaki Flats Walk
This long track follows 8.4 km as a track, near Twizel in Canterbury.
A flat, open walk on an old farm track along a fence line north of Twizel, running from the Pūkaki High Dam / SH8 out toward the Pūkaki River across hard tussock grassland. It has wide views of the Ben Ohau Range and Southern Alps and forms part of both Te Araroa and the Alps 2 Ocean Cycle Trail.
It sits at the moderate end and gains roughly 80 m, pitching up to 16 % at its steepest, and takes about 1h 48m to walk.
Dogs are welcome here on the lead. DOC’s own wording: “Dogs on a leash only. Other pets on conservation land rules.”.
