About North Temple Track

North Temple Track covers 4.9 km, near Twizel in Canterbury, walked as a track.

Follows the North Temple Stream valley through beech forest in Ruataniwha Conservation Park (near Lake Ohau), climbing to a rugged cirque basin. Involves stream crossings and can be washed out in places after heavy flow.

Graded easy, it stays flat overall, and takes about 59m to walk.

Dogs are welcome here on the lead. DOC’s own wording: “There is an ongoing trapping and poison operation for possums in this area. Monitor your dog and use a muzzle to avoid any potential scavenging of possum carcasses.”.
