Good to know
A DOC dog permit is required before any dog walks here. DOC codes this land for the hunting-dog permit, so it is not a casual dog walk. Ask the DOC office before planning to bring a dog.

About Silverpeaks Circuit Track
Silverpeaks Circuit Track is a loop of 22.6 km, near Dunedin in Otago.
A full circuit through the rugged tussock and regenerating bush of the Silverpeaks Scenic Reserve, in the hills behind Dunedin. The whole reserve is DOC land where the only stated dog access is a DOC permit, and the permit DOC describes here is the hunting-dog one. The Swampy Ridge and Leith Saddle tracks to the south are a different story: those are Dunedin City Council territory with their own rules.
It sits at the expert end and gains roughly 1,354 m, and takes about 6 hr 46 min to walk.
A DOC dog permit is required before any dog walks here. Arrange it with the managing DOC office ahead of your trip. This walk is on the map because Maria & Cody suggested it, and we checked it against the source above.
