About Mount Pureora from Link Road
Mount Pureora from Link Road is a moderate-length walk of 2.5 km, near Pureora Forest Park in Waikato.
The shortest route up Mount Pureora: a well maintained track with bridges across all the waterways and a boardwalk toward the 1,165 m summit, where the trig gives views across the King Country that our suggester calls amazing. DOC says 2 hours 30 each way; fit walkers do it in closer to 90 minutes. The carpark on Link Road is small and sits on the OPPOSITE side of the road to this track, and DOC warns the track on the same side as the carpark is a different walk, so cross the road to start. All of Pureora Forest Park is dogs-with-a-DOC-permit country: arrange the permit with the Te Kuiti DOC office before you go and allow up to five working days. This is kiwi and kokako forest, a quarter of the country’s kokako live here, and DOC asks that permitted dogs go through kiwi avoidance training.
Graded moderate, it climbs about 322 m overall, and takes about 1 hr 2 min to walk.
